All-day north winds on Wednesday, Sep.1 and a TUV of 500 ft./min. and 20 wonderful observers spelt camaraderie AND many great sights-- after 6 hours we noted 170 migrating raptors,incl. 25 Osprey, 9 MERLIN, 6 BALD EAGLES (1 adult), 21 Kestrels, 21 Sharp-shinneds and 66 BROAD-WINGED HAWKS.
Other birds-- NIGHTHAWK, Great Egret, GREEN HERON, Black-and-white Warbler, Palm Warbler, Wood Duck and a BlueJay pretending to be a Great-crested Flycatcher!! In the lowland below the platform we found 2 Monarch caterpillars on the leaves of a Swamp Milkweed. Perhaps 5 Monarch adults were seen flying through. Cranberry is at the south end of Hall's Rd., it being 1 block east of LakeRidge from Victoria in southwest Whitby. Doug Lockrey, coordinator CMRW
