Pelee Island: May 1, 2004 Highlights from Fish Point: PROTHONOTARY WARBLER, SUMMER TANAGER. There was a mini-reverse migration at the tip this morning consisting of flocks of BLUE JAYS, blackbirds, and several RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS flying south toward Ohio. A BAY-BREASTED WARBLER and a VEERY were banded at the Fish Point PIBO station.
At Lighthouse Point: BLUE-WINGED WARBLER, SORA RAIL, WHITE-EYED VIREO, YELLOW-THROATED VIREO. Yesterday, a SCARLET TANAGER, BALTIMORE ORIOLES, and 2 LINCOLN'S SPARROWS were reported at Fish Point and on Friday, April 29, a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT, YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER, and a GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER were found at Fish Point. The Third Annual Pelee Island Bird Race / Baillie Birdathon will take place from noon Friday, May 14, to noon, Saturday, May 15. The Springsong Celebration continues Saturday evening with a 'Talk and Dinner' featuring Alistair MacLeod with an introduction by Margaret Atwood. Special guest birders from Cuba: Orlando Garrido and Arturo Kirkconnell. This year, we are adding a 'Green' category to the Bird Race: only human-powered or non-fossil fuel transportation modes are allowed in this category.
