This afternoon I drove to Magnetawan to see the Trumpeter swans which have been wintering on the Magnetawan River since mid December. At about 4:30PM I found eight tagged Trumpeters and a lone Canada Goose swimming in the small stretch of open water running under the Nipissing Road Bridge. Tag numbers were as follows: #589, #774, #775, #776, #778, #781, #782 and #784. It is my understanding that these represent the majority of the Callender Bay swans released on May 2nd of last year.
Directions: Magnetawan is in south Parry Sound district on District road #520. From Toronto and parts south take Hwys 400 and 11 north to Burk's Falls, then #520 west to Magnetawan. To reach the bridge turn left at the stop sign. Kip Daynard Emsdale "Kip Daynard" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Visit http://www.ofo.ca/ontbirdsguide.htm for information on leaving and joining the list.
