While conducting waterfowl surveys yesterday along the Lake Huron shoreline,
I ran into a Townsend's solitaire just south of Inverhuron Provincial Park,
Bruce County. The time was about 4:15 PM and I was making my way (with
snowshoes) down to the lake at the mouth of the Little Sauble Creek along
Cayley Street in the cottage community of Inverhuron. The bird was seen
very clearly with a scope and I had to walk past it to get to my waterfowl
survey location. It was in some poplar trees and, as I walked past, flew
down and hid in some cedars and wasn't seen again. I am almost positive on
this ID (90%), but would appreciate any confirmation.

In addition, the concession and side roads north of the park are good places
to see wild turkeys (it is likely that we saw at least 50 yesterday). Also
seen in the general area were numerous flocks of snow buntings, 1 flock of
horned larks and a rough-legged hawk.

Directions: Take Hwy 21 north from Kincardine or south from Port Elgin.
Head west towards the lake on Bruce Road 15 (Hwy 21 does a jog in Tiverton,
so if you're coming from Kincardine, it's a left and if from Port Elgin,
it's straight). Proceed almost to the lake and make a right on Victoria
Street. Victoria curves west and turns into Cayley. At this time, Cayley
Street from Wood Street west until it dead-ends at the lake is not plowed,
so you must park at the side of the road and walk (preferably with
snowshoes) down the rest of Cayley. The bird was seen on both sides of the
street in poplar trees. A good source for mapping of the Inverhuron
community can be found at Kincardine tourism website at kincardine.net.
