  Highlights of reports received January 29 through February 6 
  from the Niagara Frontier Region include TUFTED DUCK, RED-
  NECKED GREBE, TURKEY VULTURE, NOR. SAW-WHET OWL and BALD 
  EAGLES. 

  From the Niagara peninsula of Ontario, February 5, the 
  TUFTED DUCK was still present in Port Weller, at Lock #1 of 
  the Welland Canal. This bird was first discovered on January 
  24. Take the Niagara Street exit #48 from the QEW and  
  travel north on Niagara Street to Lakeshore Drive. Turn 
  right on Lakeshore, then left before the canal bridge. 

  A moderate invasion of RED-NECKED GREBES occurred in the 
  region during the past week. 16 to 20 RED-NECKED GREBES on 
  the Niagara River off Fort Erie, Ontario; also seen from 
  Squaw Island in Buffalo, and in Dunkirk Harbor, another 12 
  RED-NECKED GREBES. There will be a BOS field trip to 
  northern Chautauqua County on Sunday, February 8. Meet at 
  the Dunkirk Harbor pier at 9 AM. Visitors are always welcome 
  on BOS field trips. 

  January 30, a very unexpected TURKEY VULTURE was reported 
  soaring over Pleasantview Drive in Lancaster. At the 
  Iroquois Refuge, February 2, a NOR. SAW-WHET OWL was heard 
  calling near the headquarters on Casey Road. 

  BALD EAGLES on the Niagara River this week were highlighted 
  by a very good count of 8 to 11 on the ice between the north 
  end of Squaw Island and Strawberry Island. Eagles were also 
  noted at four other locations on the upper and lower river. 

  Other reports this week - Flocks of 50 to 60 TUNDRA SWANS at 
  the north and south ends of Grand Island. A MERLIN on 
  Niagara-Orleans Countyline Road near Route 18. PEREGRINE 
  FALCON on the electric towers near the Peace Bridge. Two 
  RING-NECKED PHEASANTS at a feeder in the Town of Newstead. 
  GLAUCOUS GULL on Lake Ontario, off Fort Niagara State Park. 
  SNOWY OWL still at the Niagara Falls airport. SHORT-EARED 
  OWL on Ott Road in Fort Erie. From Lancaster, RED-BELLIED 
  WDPKR. and HAIRY WOODPECKER at the Ellicott Creek Nature 
  Sanctuary in Bowmansville.  In East Aurora, CAROLINA WREN at 
  a feeder on Walnut Street and 3 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS at Sinking 
  Ponds. Also, 3 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS at a feeder in Clarence. 

  In the Lake Ontario Plains, a total of 3 NORTHERN SHRIKES, 
  large mixed flocks of HORNED LARKS, SNOW BUNTINGS and 
  LAPLAND LONGSPURS on Countyline Road north of Route 18 and 
  on Hulbert Road in the Town of Wilson. And, in a grass field 
  on Lakeshore Road in the Town of Yates, a mixed flock of 
  AMER. TREE SPARROWS, SNOW BUNTINGS and 12 COMMON REDPOLLS.
