Karen and I spent Friday afternoon searching through the Owl Woods. We
were able to locate only 4 of the 7 SAW-WHET OWLS reported on the
Amherst Island CBC recently. However, SAW-WHETs found at this time of
year are probably wintering in this area and make it reasonably certain
to find several if you're planning on making the trip this winter.

There are also numerous LONG-EARED OWLS as well. There were a minimum
of 8-10 located in the CEDAR WOODS and the PINES. No sign of any
SHORT-EARED OWLS on the way to or from the woods but we didn't spend
much time looking yesterday because of the lateness of the hour.

Note might also be made of the possible GREAT GRAY OWLs seen on the 401
just north of the Island this afternoon. We'll keep an eye open
tomorrow and see if we can locate any in the area.
