Hi Birders: A mature Gyrfalcon with grey-brown upperparts was observed by Gerald and Shirley Paul on Amherst Island's First Concession Road, Friday, November 21/03. We watched it for about 20 minutes as it moved from one hydro pole to another on the north side of the road. As we drove closer, the bird moved one pole further from us. On average, it was about the width between two poles away from us. It also perched on three different fence posts near us. We studied it on poles and posts with binoculars and scope and made detailed notes of shape, colours, posture, behaviour.
Take the Amherst Island ferry and drive south (straight ahead). After passing the Presbyterian Church on the left (east) go right (west) on First Concession Road for about three kilometres. The bird was on the right (north) slowly working its way west from pole to pole. Gerald W.
