Hi, Everyone.
Lambton Wildlife. had an outing today to North
Lambton.
We started of at Point Edward, but without a good N.W Wind, not much
was happening.
Because the DETROIT AUDUBON had found a LITTLE GULL and a
WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER in the Brights Grove Sewage Lagoons we left our
original site and went to look for them. The Gulls were not co-operating
and we could not find the Little gull. However the WHITE=RUMP was standing
on the ice with some DUNLIN about 70ft. from us. A large bird circling
over the woodlot was a 1st.yr. GOLDEN EAGLE with a ROUGH-LEG in tow. On
the way out we saw a hawk in a bush. it flew towards us to within 60ft. and
was a juv. female NORTHERN GOSHAWK. Stunning views.
At Kettle Point we had LONG-TAILED DUCKS and COMMON REDPOLLS. At
Ipperwash there were PINE SISKINS.
After lunch we proceeded to the Pinery Provincial Park to look for
the BOHEMIAN WAXWING which we missed.
A drive around the park found WINTER WREN on the Riverside Trail and
HERMIT THRUSH and FOX SPARROW.
While looking for the RED- HEADED WOODPECKERS in the Maintenance
Compound, one and perhaps two TOWNSENDS SOLITAIRES were located among the
dead trees just before sunset.
The Pinery is on Highway 21 South of Grand Bend.
Good Birding. Alf.
