AMHERST I. [page 36, quad E54 & E55]
The latest AVOCET sighting reported was on Oct. 8 by Owen Weir..
Bruce Ripley reported, Oct. 7: "Searching in suitable habitat, I was amazed
that I actually found a NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED SPARROW. It was located in the
reedy area at the base of the
spit of land that separates the second pond from the third on the KFN
property at the east end of the island. The base of the spit is on the west
side of the pond. This is the same spit of land that the AMERICAN AVOCET has
been seen on and was there at the same time I was observing the sparrow. The
sparrow never flew but rather ran through the reeds like a mouse."
Kurt Hennige reported Oct. 6: "ALL of the following Sightings were on South
Shore Rd. on Amherst Island: 4000 TREE SWALLOWS, 5 BANK, 60 ROUGH-WINGED and
10 BARN SWALLOWS, one SNOW GOOSE, 2 ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS, and 1 PALM
