Hello Ontbirders
Yesterday evening, September 11th I birded along the Ottawa River,
Lake Deschenes between Shirleys Bay and Deschenes Rapids. The viewing
conditions were excellent and the water was calm. From the Shirleys Bay
boat launch area I observed 11 Lesser Blacked Gulls resting on the water
with a few thousand Herring and Ring-billed Gulls and a 22 Great
Black-backed Gulls.. The Lesser Black-backed Gulls were all adults in
various stages of molt. With water levels lower along the river
Deschenes Rapids had more exposed rocks and there were 3 more Lesser
Black-backed Gulls (1 ad., 1 3rd. yr. and 1 first winter) along with 175
Great Black-backed Gulls resting on the rocks. A total of 250
Double-crested Cormorants were also counted.
good birding
