To contact the Science Museum, call 896-5200. September 4 through September 11 was a generally quite week for reports from the Niagara Frontier Region. A total of 18 shorebird species were reported this week from the Lake Erie shore of Ontario. 16 species at Fort Erie were highlighted by a WESTERN SANDPIPER on September 7 at Stonemill Point. At the Poth Road turf farms in Dunnville on the 9th, 17 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS and 29 AMERICAN GOLDEN- PLOVERS. Also in Ontario, MERLINS were noted at the turf farms and along the shore at Fort Erie. Over 500 COMMON TERNS at Long Beach in Wainfleet. At Rock Point Park, RED-BR. NUTHATCH. And 11 MUTE SWANS and 5 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS at Stonemill Road. September 7, on the beach at Beaver Island State Park on Grand Island, one each of AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER and BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, along with 10 CASPIAN TERNS. September 9, in Wainfleet, Ontario, three or four WHIP-POOR- WILLS and two EASTERN SCREECH-OWLS were calling at 9 PM along Wilson Road. The BOS field trip to Tifft Nature Preserve in Buffalo on September 7 reported at least 50 species including a PEREGRINE FALCON plus BL.-CR. NIGHT-HERON, COOPER'S HAWK and eight warbler species - NASHVILLE WARBLER, YELLOW WARBLER, MAGNOLIA WARBLER, BL.-THR. BL. WARBLER, BL.-THR. GREEN WARB., PINE WARBLER, AMERICAN REDSTART and WILSON'S WARBLER. Plan ahead to attend the next BOS meeting on Wednesday, September 24 at 7:30 PM at the Buffalo Museum of Science. A program will be presented on the birds of Polar Bear Park on Hudson's Bay in Ontario, by Jean Iron, president of the Ontario Field Ornithologists. The next BOS field trip will be on Sunday, September 21, to the western Lake Ontario Plains. Meet at 8 AM at the Tops Market on Center Street in Lewiston.
