  Highlights of reports received August 28 through September 4 
  from the Niagara Frontier Region include shorebirds and 
  warblers. 

  At least 17 shorebird species were reported from the Lake 
  Erie shore of Ontario this week. August 30, 13 species at 
  Rock Point in Dunnville included a WESTERN SANDPIPER, and 
  near the park, an UPLAND SANDPIPER. Good numbers of BAIRD'S 
  SANDPIPERS were found at several locations - 12 at Rock 
  Point, 8 at Grabell Point in Wainfleet and in Fort Erie, 15 
  at Buffalo Road and another 15 at Stonemill Road. At the 
  turf farms on Poth and Feeder Roads in Dunnville this week, 
  80 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 15 AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS and 
  several BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS and SHORT-B. DOWITCHERS. Also, an 
  albino swallow species on Feeder Road. September 3, 3 STILT 
  SANDPIPERS at Long Beach in Wainfleet with 300 COMMON TERNS, 
  1 FORSTER'S TERN and a MERLIN. And a late report of a WILLET 
  at Times Beach in Buffalo on August 23. 

  Fall migrant warblers were found in good numbers at some 
  locations this week, but were absent at some spots. In 
  Allegany County, on Middle Road in the Town of Granger, 15 
  warbler species included YELLOW-R. WARBLER, PINE WARBLER and 
  PRAIRIE WARBLER. At 12 species at Amherst State Park this 
  week included BAY-BREASTED WARBLER, BLACKPOLL WARBLER and 
  CANADA WARBLER. August 28, a GOLDEN-WING. WARBLER was 
  reported again on Carmen Road, south of Townline Road in the 
  Niagara County Town of Hartland. August 31, only 6 warbler 
  species at Tifft Nature Preserve in Buffalo and just a 
  COMMON YELLOWTHROAT at Sinking Ponds in East Aurora. 

  Several other migrants were noted this week including an 
  OLIVE-S. FLYCATCHER on September 2 in the Town of Ridgeway 
  in Orleans County. Small numbers of COMMON NIGHTHAWKS over 
  Amherst and Buffalo. PHILADELPHIA VIREO at several locations 
  along with more visible local breeding birds - BLACK-BILLED 
  CUCKOO, EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE, LEAST FLYCATCHER, RED-EYED 
  VIREO, WARBLING VIREO, CAROLINA WREN, BROWN THRASHER, 
  SCARLET TANAGER, EASTERN TOWHEE, ROSE-BR. GROSBEAK, INDIGO 
  BUNTING and BALTIMORE ORIOLE. 

  August 26, 2 GREAT EGRETS, including one with a red leg band 
  from the Motor Island heronry, were along Ellicott Creek in 
  Amherst behind the Jewish Community Center. A red banded 
  egret was reported again, with four other egrets, on Cement 
  Plant Road in Port Colborne, Ontario. 

  August 28, the OSPREY nestling still had not fledged from 
  the Lewiston Road platform in the Tonawanda Wildlife 
  Management Area. 

  Other recent reports - a BALD EAGLE has been residing on the 
  Lake Erie shore in Silver Creek. And, what may be a first 
  for the Eggertsville area of Amherst, breeding WILD TURKEYS 
  produced 8 young, along Koster Row off Main Street.
