Sorry for the late post, but yesterday (Monday) at 2:00, the Avocet was still at Leslie Street Spit on beach of Penn. B, facing Penn. C. The bird was out near (but not quite at) the tip which is where Cormorants like to sit. Spotting scope highly adviseable. Bus or bicycle also advised (unless you have enough time to walk, probably 35-34 minutes each way from the base).
DIRECTIONS (per Naish and Sheila McHugh: Take the bus (Sat., Sun. and Mon.) to the bridge. Cross the bridge and walk to the 2nd trail on the right side of the paved road, near the Portable Toilet. Take this trail through the clearing that has one pic-nic table in it, continue straight on through the trees, then take the left branch to the westerly side, which comes out at the water's edge. This is the westerly side of Peninsula 'C'. Bird seems to like the area on opposite beach, which is Penn. B.
