Hi Ontbirders, I am posting this on behalf of Bruce Di Labio who discovered a bright juv. Western Sandpiper at Owen Pt. early this morning (and independently found by Geoff Carpentier as well). The bird was still there as of noon and is being seen fairly easily - but beware there are several long-billed Semi's too. This bird is obvious once you spot it with extensive, bright red edgings on the back forming two bright stripes of red, plus an obviously long slightly decurved bill with a fairly fine tip. In addition to all the birds mentioned yesterday still there today, there was also a juv. Dunlin and Whimbrel this morning, and Bruce told me he relocated the two Orchard Orioles at the Calf Pasture parking area as well.
The Western seems to be feeding mostly on the north side of Owen Pt, quite close to observers, and as is often the case, is frequently wading belly-deep in the small pools within the algae flats. Cheers, Doug McRae Directions: Presqu'ile is best reached by taking the Brighton exit off Hwy 401, then going south through town and follow signs to the Provincial Park.
