Just returned from a quick juant to Manitoulin Island.

An Adult Peregrin was observed on Saturday Aug. 30th at Ice Lake.It was
sitting on a Dead tree approximately 30 yards from the Hwy. I afforded great
looks for 10 minutes before flying out over the Lake.
Hummingbird activity at my sisters west of West Bay(M'Cheeing) was
absolutely astounding. As many as 40 individuals are there at one time. The
noise is like being in the middle of a Bee Hive Colony when they are
disturbed. She has 3 feeders on the go ,with the Largest holding
approximately 1 Litre. All feeders are being filled dayly, with the 2 smaller
ones twice a Day! To sit a mere 5 feet away from the closest feeder and view
these is most impressive. 99% of the birds are Juvenals and Females.
Sandhill Cranes are slowly starting to Flock. The largest group I saw were
20 Birds on Barrie Island. The best time to see large flocks of Sandhills is
generally end of September through to Thanksgiving.
One other note was the fact of Song Sparrows still Carrying food and acting
very Agitated.Late Nesting activities?

Manitoulin Island is accessed Via Hwy # 6. From the May long weekend till
Thanksgiving the Ferry Service runs from Tobermory to South Baymouth. The
only other access is year round Via Hwy #6 south from McKerrow and crossing
the Swing Bridge at Little Current.
Hwy # 540,#542 are the main ones on the Island, but never hesitate to take
the concession roads as you never know what you may see.
Deer Populations on the Island are vry High and Caution should be of the
utmost in the evening and night-time hours.
