This afternoon found several species of shorebirds to the north-west of Toronto. At Holland Landing lagoons were 3 juvenile Stilt Sandpipers found yesterday by Jean Iron and Eleanor Beagan. Also there were Solitary, Spotted, Pectoral, Semipalmated and Least sandpipers, Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs, Pied-billed Grebe, Wood Duck, Green-winged & Blue-winged Teal.
At Schomberg, water levels were higher than last weekend but many Lesser Yellowlegs were foraging along the edge with Spotted & Semipalmated sandpipers & Killdeer. A Northern Shoveler & both Teal were also found.
Near Beeton one large flock of Black-bellied & Golden plovers rested on a sod field.
Directions: For Holland Landing lagoons, go n. of Newmarket on Yonge. Turn east on #38 : Bathurst and quickly north onto #77: Queensville Sideroad until it crosses the Holland River. Then turn right (south) onto Yonge until reaching Cedar. Turn left & proceed to the end.
For Schomberg, go n. on #27 until Proctor, which is one street south of #9. Go to the end of Proctor. Park & walk across to the lagoons.
The best sod fields at present near Beeton are at 9th Line & 15th Sideroad. Try also the 11th Concession.
