It was a pleasure to have very many visitors (from Georgetown to Kingston)
arrive on the platform for the first Saturday of the CMRW 2003 season. Up to
8 observers assisted Jerry Walsh, our counter, for 5 hours. The brisk NW
winds brought 8 OSPREYS past us, along with a resident Osprey carrying a
large fish. For 3 hours we enjoyed the behaviour of 2 young Merlins, flying
together or singly from roost to roost, as well as harassing Ospreys. In
addition we had 3 migrating kestrels and 1 Sharp-shinned.

Other highlights-- a calling Virginia Rail, very many Swallows, Chimney
Swifts, Hummingbirds, Cedar Waxwings. Up to 5 species of great numbers of
Dragonflies were enjoyed.

Come down to enjoy the camaraderie and help at the hawk watch any day
(mid-morning is generally the best time of day).

Cranberry Marsh is near the lakefront on Hall's Rd., accessed from Victoria
St. in southwest Whitby.
