Hi. Ont Birders.
Yesterday Aug.21st. Pete Chapman heard a PEREGRINE stooping. over our heads. It attempted to hit a Juv. LESSER YELLOWLEGS, but the bird instead of taking flight, waded out into the water and squatted down. Twice the PEREGRINE tried and twice the shorebird escaped. The falcon then took a slightly longer loop and returned twice more but this time the shorebird went completely under water and the PEREGRINE missed by about 8 centimeters!. After another try the falcon left to perch on a nearby radio tower. The Yellowlegs returned to feeding. What a great sighting.! Of local significance only-- Today, Friday 22nd,. on the Beach at KETTLE POINT there is a DUNLIN in juvenile plumage. This is only the second time in 35 years that I have seen one down here. (In that time we have had 6 CURLEW SANDPIPERS to put it in perspective) Kettle point is situated North of Forest where Lakeshore Rd. and Hwy. 21 join. Go North and turn left on the beach. The bird was 500M West with Sanderlings and 2 BAIRDS SANDPIPERS. Not many shorebirds in the sewage lagoons of Grand Bend, Thedford, Forest or Brights Grove today. Too much water.
                 Good Birding. Alf.
