PLEASE SAVE THIS EMAIL Over the last two years 41 Great Egrets have been banded with RED BANDS WITH WHITE NUMBER-LETTERS ABOVE THE KNEE OF THE LEFT LEG AND THE TRADITIONAL ALUMINUM BAND ABOVE THE ANKLE ON THE RIGHT LED on Motor Island in the Niagara River. During post breeding dispersion it was thought likely that many of these Great Egrets would move down the Niagara River and forage in Ontario along the North shore of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. August 10 Kayo Roy, Alan Smith, and Brian Ahara observed a Great Egret with these bands in a pond off Cement Plant Road in Wainfleet Ontario, about 40 Kilometers west of the Niagara River Colony. It flew away before they got the banding code, but on August 12, Brandon Holden successfully read the band and confirmed that it was a Motor Island Great Egret banded this year! If you see this bird or other color banded Great Egrets, please notify at least one or both of the following even if you cannot read the band:
