At 3:30pm, Thursday, August 14th, 2003, this is the
Hamilton Naturalists' Club Birding Hotline Report. The
Hotline is normally revised on Thursday, unless an
unusual bird turns up in the Hamilton area.

Shorebirds, shorebirds, shorebirds! More of the same
this week. A trip to the Grimsby Sewage Lagoons
produced WILSON'S PHALAROPE, SEMI-PALMATED PLOVER,
SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPER, LEAST SANDPIPER, PECTORAL
SANDPIPER, LESSER YELLOWLEGS, and KILLDEER. Down the
road at Tollgate ponds a RUDDY TURNSTONE was reported.

Further afield, sightings at the Townsend Sewage
Lagoons included STILT SANDPIPER, PECTORAL SANDPIPER,
SPOTTED SANDPIPER, LEAST SANDPIPER, SEMI-PALMATED
SANDPIPER, SEMI-PALMATED PLOVER, GREATER YELLOWLEGS,
LESSER YELLOWLEGS, SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER and
KILLDEER.

Elsewhere, a walk at Courtcliff Park yielded COMMON
NIGHTHAWK, OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER, INDIGO BUNTING,
WARBLING VIREO, GREAT BLUE HERON, EASTERN PHOEBE,
COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, YELLOW WARBLER, BLACKBURNIAN
WARBLER, BLUE-WINGED WARBLER, CEDAR WAXWING,
ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK, BALTIMORE ORIOLE, plus SONG
SPARROW, FIELD SPARROW, SAVANNAH SPARROW, CHIPPING
SPARROW, VESPER SPARROW and BROWN THRASHER. 

Among the thousands of deerflies at the Curry Tract,
YELLOW-THROATED VIREO, RED-EYED VIREO, PINE WARBLER,
CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER, BLUE-WINGED WARBLER, OVENBIRD,
AMERICAN REDSTART, SCARLET TANAGER, RED-BREASTED
NUTHATCH, OSPREY, INDIGO BUNTING, and VEERY were
spotted.

Other reports received this week include GREAT EGRET
at the Willows, and ACADIAN FLYCATCHER at Rock Point
Provincial Park. 

Keep you eyes peeled for BLACK VULTURES. Two separate
reports about BLACK VULTURES were posted to Ontbirds
this week, including sightings at Point Pelee and near
North Bay. Be sure to let us know about your
sightings. Leave your name, telephone number, as well
as the time and date of your call. Sightings can also
be reported by e-mail.
