Hello Ontbirders, Maureen Riggs, Bill Gilmour and I did the weekly IBA shorebird survey at Presqu'ile this morning, which counts all birds seen along the beach from the park boundary to the base of Owen Point. We saw eight species totaling 179 birds. Of interest was a juv. Lesser yellowlegs - the first juv shorebird of the fall (other than local Spotties and killdeer). Most birds were in the shoreline pools of floating algae located from the base of Owen Pt. north to Beach 3.
Results: 13 Killdeer (3ad, 10 juv) 1 Semi Plover (1ad) 26 Spotted S/p (24ad,2juv) - high number of adults indicating lots of migrants mixed with local nesters 58 Lesser Yellowlegs (56ad,1juv) 6 S-b Dowitcher (6ad) - all bright hendersoni 1 Sanderling (1ad) 15 Semi S/p (15ad) 59 Least S/p (59ad) There were quite a few other birds about, but the only other notable sighting was of a sub-adult Tundra Swan hanging out with Canada's on Beach 3 Cheers, Doug McRae Doug McRae <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Visit http://www.ofo.ca/ontbirdsguide.htm for information on leaving and joining the list.
