OFNC BIRD STATUS LINE TUESDAY June 17 AT 7 AM
This is Chris Lewis reporting.
On June 16, a Yellow-billed Cuckoo was discovered near Carleton
Place, along highway 7, approximately half a kilometre west of the
intersection with Dwyer Hill Rd.
Also on the 16th, the Peregrine Falcon chick on the Crowne Plaza
was banded and determined to be a female.
On the 14th, a late evening visit to the Richmond Fen was quite
productive. A YELLOW RAIL was heard from the railroad tracks in
the fen. Other species found here were American Bittern, Great
Horned Owl, Black-billed Cuckoo, Sedge Wren and Willow
Flycatchers.
On June 6 and 7, Whip-poor-wills were reported from the Québec
side in Aylmer at Vanier and Boucher Rds and as well as in the
Mont Cascade area in Cantley.
A Black-crowned Night-Heron was seen at Mud Lake in Britannia on
the 7th.
Otherwise, a very quiet week for bird reports, typical for the
breeding bird season. The Ontario Breeding Bird Atlas is in its
third year and our regional coordinator Christine Hanrahan is
interested in any reports of nesting activity. Please contact
Christine at 798-1620 or [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Thank-you, good birding.
