I just returned from Horseshoe Bay and I'm happy to report that the Snowy
Egret is still there. When I first arrived to look for the bird, I scanned
out over the wet land with my eyes from the car and couldn't see the bird.
I jumped out of the car set out my scope feeling a little disappointed and
started to look. The reason I couldn't see the Snowy was that it was only
30 yards to the right and behind my car. I didn't need a scope as the
binos were more than adequate. At 10:30 AM, it was in the closest pond on
the far right of Horseshoe Bay with a pair of Gadwalls.

When I first reported the Egret on May 20th, it was seen with a Trumpeter
Swan, Tag No 543. To my knowledge the Swan has not been present since the
20th.

The Snowy Egret is easily accessible from the Huron Fringe Birding Festival
being held at MacGregor Point Park starting this Friday on May 23 and
running to June 1. For more information on the Festival please consult the

To find Horseshoe Bay drive on Hwy 21 between Southampton and Port Elgin
going south. Turn right towards the Lake on Concession 10. When you get to
the bottom turn right again and the first Bay you come to is Mirimachi Bay
and the second one is Horseshoe Bay.
