Mark Wiercinski and I just completed a gruelling big day 'Baillie Birdathon' on 
the Bruce Peninsula.
Despite terrible weather (high winds and 5 hours of rain) we managed to dig up 
154 species (the
record for this region, which we set last year is 162 species). Here are some 
highlights:

species total: 154 (152 shared)
time: 1:56am to 8:15pm (18 hours)
distance driven: 458 km
basic route: Tobermory - Port Elgin - Owen Sound - Wiarton - Cabot Head - 
Tobermory
diet: 4 lbs of junkfood and huge doses of caffeine
weather complaints: hundreds

-Snowy Egret (at Miramichi Bay, near Port Elgin) - same bird reported earlier 
today (we found it
independently)
-Red-necked Grebe (1 - Dyers Bay)
-Northern Shoveler (4 - Wiarton Sewage Ponds)
-Ruddy Duck (1 female - Wiarton Sewage Ponds)
-White-winged Scoter (30 - from Cabot Head Provincial Nature Reserve)
-Black Scoter (4 - Cabot Head)
-Long-tailed Duck (8 - Cabot Head)
-Northern Goshawk (1 on nest near Tobermory)
-Rough-legged Hawk (1 dark morph - near Dyers Bay)
-Peregrine Falcon (1 - Cabot Head)
-Sandhill Crane (4 - Crane Lake, Bruce Peninsula National Park)
-Semipalmated Plover (10 - Miramichi Bay and Stokes Bay)
-Semipalmated Sandpiper (2 - Miramichi Bay)
-Black Tern (15 - Wiarton Sewage Ponds)
-Common Tern (many along Lake Huron shoreline)
-Barred Owl (1 - calling northeast of Howdenvale)
-Red-bellied Woodpecker (3 - east boundary of MacGregor Point Provincial Park)
-Alder Flycatcher (1)
-Philadelphia Vireo (1 - MacGregor Point PP)
-Golden-winged Warbler (1 - MacGregor Point PP)
-Blue-winged Warbler (1 - MacGregor Point PP)
-Mourning Warbler (1 - MacGregor Point PP)
-Blue-gray Gnatcatcher (2 - MacGregor Point PP)
-American Pipit (11 - Dyers Bay)
-Canada Warbler (2 - Cabot Head)
-Northern Parula (1 - Cabot Head)
-Blackpoll Warbler (1 - Stokes Bay)
-Clay-coloured Sparrow (1 - near Larkwhistle, Dyers Bay)
-Brewer's Blackbird (3 - Ferndale Flats)
