Despite the southwest winds and generally mild temperatures, bird activity in the Park has remained relatively quiet. Nevertheless, new birds are being reported each and every day. Today saw the arrival of a lovely male CERULEAN WARBLER, WHITE-EYED VIREO, 1-2 RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS, a probable LEAST FLYCATCHER, male ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK, HOUSE WREN, several WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS and a NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH. WARBLING VIREO, NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD, INDIGO BUNTING, CHIMNEY SWIFT, RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER and SURF SCOTER were a few of the other noteworthy species seen this morning.
Other more common birds found throughout different locations of the park include, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, PALM WARBLER, RUBY0CROWNED KINGLET, WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, and several BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLERS. Also seen yesterday was a flock of 35 LAPLAND LONGSPURS at the new shorebird cell at Hillman Marsh. Late day or evening showers will hopefully bring down a few new migrants tomorrow. We'll keep you posted.
