Hi fellow birders. This is just to report that as of Sunday night (April 27th) the Great Egret was still at the pond on 15th Side Rd. St. Joseph Island (30 min drive east-south-east of Sault Ste. Marie). It has been there since the 18th.
Other birds to note: Although already present in moderate numbers, an influx of American Goldfinch, American Tree Sparrow and Dark-eyed Junco occured Friday-Saturday (April 25-26th). Numbers of White-throated Sparrow and Chipping Sparrow also increased over the weekend and more are singing. More Rusty Blackbirds were observed in the area at a number of places. Common Loon are starting to trickle through. A steady procession of Rough-legged Hawk are streaming and kettling across the city as I type this (10:48am). Looks like a good day ahead.
