A Lunchtime visit to the Promenade Park in Mississauga today produced a pleasant surprise. Feeding with a spring like frenzy was a pair of Horned Grebe's. The female was much more prominent then the male, but they did swim together during my one hour visit. The male was almost in breeding plumage. Also a pair of American widgeon can be found swimming with the resident flock of Gadwall's.
This Park manages to produce a winter long supply of birds due to the warm water outlet from the Lakeshore generating plant. Entrance to this Park is from Lakeshore road east, between Dixie Road and Crawtha Road. Proceed south to the parking lot where the Police Marine Office, and Snack bar are located, this is the public marina and not the Port Credit Yacht Club. The grebes were swimming between the moored Boats. David W. Weare Brampton. Ontario. "David Weare" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
