WOLFE I. [page 36, quad E56 & 57]
I covered the western area from the 5th Line to the 9th Line on Feb. 27. I
found 3 SNOWY OWLS, one dark juvenile on Reeds Bay Rd. on a hydro pole (9th
pole west of Hwy 95), a lighter juvenile on a barn near corner of 8th Line
and Bennett Rd. and one adult at the corner of Hwy 5 and Baseline Rd.. Hawks
seen were 3 RED-TAILED HAWKS and 2 AM. KESTREL. There were 31 HORNED LARKS
in 2 loose flocks and 30 WILD TURKEY in the fields between Hwy 95 and the
Button Bay Lane. At a feeder at the north end of the 8th Line there were 2
CARDINALS, 20 AM. TREE SPARROWS and 8 BLUE JAYS. At the Kingston Dock on the
way back from the island there were 80 MALLARD, 2 RED-BREASTED and 14 COM.
MERGANSERS. On Wolfe I., the 5th to 9th Lines were all passable but
slippery. The trees and hydro lines were loaded with 3 to 4 centimeters of
ice. I saw one power line down on the 5th Line and evidence of broken hydro
poles having been replaced. I saw no open water.
OTHER SIGHTINGS
At Cartwright Point, Kingston {page 49, quad N20} the SCREECH OWL opposite
#3 Woodpecker Lane was seen on Feb. 27 and an AM. ROBIN was heard near #14
The Point Rd.
Jay McMahan & I stopped briefly at Ivy Lea on Feb. 26. We saw 1 BALD EAGLE
and a HOODED MERGANSER among the hundreds of C. MERGANSER and C. GOLDENEYE.
