Yesterday (Feb.26) the Pembroke Ministry of Natural Resources office received a call about a Red-necked Grebe that had landed and stranded itself in a field outside of the town of Pembroke. We retrieved the bird and subsequently released it into open water on the Ottawa River (below the rapids between Morrison and Cotnam's Islands).
Unsure if the bird is still there today. The identification was confirmed by Daryl Coulson and Lauren Trute. Several photographs were taken to document the occurrence. Directions from Pembroke: Take Hwy 148 (to Quebec) to the second bridge (just before Dubois Store and gas station). There is open water at and below the rapids.
