Hello birders,
Another update for the St. Clair River (up to Courtright).
Visibility was poor this morning, but the ducks were numerous (14 species).
The last couple of days have brought in many more ducks. Red-breasted
Mergansers and Ring-necked Ducks have been scarce until now, but they are in
numbers now. Lesser Scaup have been conspicuously absent this winter. I've
only seen Greater in recent weeks. As well, most other species have
increased in numbers. There are still a few Hooded Mergs.
I re-found one of the WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS at Sombra which I had first seen
around Christmas time. I looked at another scoter at Cathcart Park which I
believed to be a female SURF. About 15 Tundra Swans are still around,
mostly north of Sombra, as well as too many Mute Swans. At least 3 Gadwall
Ducks, which I had not seen yet this winter, were at Cathcart Park. Last
Saturday there was a male Am. Wigeon at Terra outfall, but has not been seen
since.
There are very few gulls left, but I did see one first basic ICELAND just
south of Seager Park.
I'll be out again tomorrow to see what I missed!

Directions to Sombra and St. Clair River: Find Hwy 40 which runs N/S
between Sarnia and Wallaceburg. Turn west on Lambton Rd. 2 (Bentpath Line)
and take to
Sombra on the river. Sombra Bay is right in front of you. Fawn Island is
just to the south of the village. The St. Clair Parkway (Rd. 33) follows
the river along its length.
The parks mentioned are all signed.

Blake.
