Hi All,

Joanne and I just returned from a trip along the St. Mary's River this
morning. Most of the river has frozen over with some open patches below
the library. Above the library is open upstream to the top of the
headrace. We saw 5 Mute Swans and 1 other swan we could not separate
from a Tundra or a trumpeter because it refused to stop sleeping, at
Algoma Cabins.
On Parkdale Cres. we had the trip highlight with 2 light gray phase
Gyrfalcons colliding while attempting to catch a rock dove. Five minutes
later they were flying over the river less than a kilometre away, being
chased by an immature Bald Eagle. The American Kestrel is still at the
Sault Locks. In front of the Station Mall, an adult Bald Eagle perched
watching 2 Herring Gulls and 2 first winter Glaucous Gulls. Three Hooded
Mergansers were still in the tail race, along with 60 Common Goldeneye.
