Thanks to Keith Dieroff for relaying the message about the Blue-winged
Teal at Desjardins Canal in Dundas this morning.

Bill Smith and I were helping with the Lake Ontario Waterfowl Count when
we saw this bird. We realized shortly after passing on the news that the
bird was a male and not a female. Look for the smallest duck in the canal.
It has bright white patches on its sides in the ventral area, with the
thick vertical streaking starting to show forward of the white areas.

Directions are as follows: from the 403 take the Main Street West exit,
turn left and proceed to Cootes Drive, veer off to the right and round the
bend (past the marsh) to the first light. Turn right again at the
lights - the marsh is on your right hand side about 50m in.
