A tour around Haldimand this morning produced a good show of raptors as
expected. Many RED-TAILED HAWKS throughout including a high number as
previously reported on Concession 4 between Highway 6 and Mackenzie Rd,
north of Hagersville (i.e. The Chicken Ranch).AMERICAN KESTRELS are also
around in large numbers. There were a couple of ROUGH LEGGED HAWKS. The
Raptor Reserve on Concession 6 north of Fisherville (between Highways 53 and
12) had a good show of SHORT EARED OWLS including three flying about after
being alarmed by a dog.

As John Miles mentioned, NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRDS are common this year. I saw
two at Taquanya Conservation area (Townline Rd at Decewsville Rd), one at
the Raptor Reserve and a fourth at Regional Rd. 3 and Riverside Rd. This
last area also produced an unexpected group of 4 MEADOWLARKS (sp.) near the
intersection.

An adult BALD EAGLE was flying near the Power Plant and a juvenile was
perched near the road just east of the plant on Lake Shore Road. What was
probably the same bird was in the same tree a week ago, so it is probably
reliable there. Around the corner on the Brooklyn Sideroad, an adult
NORTHERN SHRIKE was in a field on the west side.

There were a couple of small flocks of HORNED LARKS in the concessions north
of Hagersville, and a good size flock of SNOW BUNTINGS and HORNED LARKS on
Quarter Line between Highway 6 and Lakeshore Rd.
