January 4. A Short-eared Owl is sitting on the ice at Cobourg harbour, a lonely speck out near the harbour mouth. A small group of gulls on the ice includes an adult Thayer's, adult Iceland, and a couple of Glaucous Gulls. The two Greater White-fronted Geese are still among the large flock of Canadas to the east of the harbour, hard to pick out in this flock at times but worth scoping from the east pier.
To reach Cobourg harbour leave Hwy.401 at Division Street, Exit 474, and drive south to the lake on Division Street which continues as the east pier of the harbour. "Margaret Bain" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
