Sorry your experience with this mailing list has been less than satisfactory. I wasn't following the discussion at all, and I'm sure many on the list were enjoying their weekend...
The Perl community is much more than this mailing list. It is the sum of the many books that have been written, web pages, the modules on CPAN, and many mailing lists...this being only one of them. I think if you judge Perl by a few responses, you're going to end up missing out on a useful language. But, I surely understand why you would want to walk away from a mailing list.
