If the renderer you're using supports it, you can produce a newline character with the formatting code E<10>. But older renderers (and maybe even some newer ones) may not give you the effect you're looking for. What are you trying to do? You can have direct control of line breaks in what the perlpod manpage calls a "Verbatim Paragraph", if that's what you need.
