The interesting 'learn by comparing code' part is available,
if you have the time, to go over the ones that are up at
Matt's place over and against the 'canonical rewrites' at
source forge.

But that assumes that you have the time to review both side by side.

For the full on newbie - it would probably be better to start at the
source forge - and once one has an eye for the game - then go and
look at the 'original' - and hence learn to cut one's self some slack
about how one's code does not yet match the pretty pretty up at
source forge...

As such, this part of the problem really is 'within bounds' since
we are attempting to 'set standards' for the people new to perl
in a way that helps them understand that there is a whole lot of
'old perl code' out there - stuff which we NOW would not touch with
a ten foot poll - but which, and we should all be honest about it,
is about as good as some of use were writing at the time...

if you want to see a better way for 'taking the topic' off topic,
then think about it like this:

"yo, that code is like the movie 'undercover brother', a flash back
to a
day when we all had the funk, and
the platform shoes and 'fro to go with it...."

So for some, Matt's code, is well.... Yes, we all wrote code
like that once - and if push comes to shove, most of us have
more than one set of patched jeans and a dashiki or two in
the closet.... But the critical lesson to learn is:

        "Fight the MAN!"

and get back that funk!

without the fashion risk.
