I think this is totally on topic, probably something that novices should be
aware of and old hacks should remember from time to time. I realize that my
comments upset many people who are probably more invested in Perl than I am.
I should have mentioned in one of my earlier posts, if you want to solve a
problem quickly and efficiently, by hiding certain fundamental computing
problems Perl may be your best bet. I'll try not to post opinion pieces
anymore; I was not trying to rile the Perl programming community or start a
flame war, just trying to give my honest opinion. In fact I think I'll only
post questions or just lurk; I find that this is not a very friendly list
after all. Thanks, Leon/eventualdeath, for the only positive feedback to my
posts so far. I also appreciate the individual negative comments (not
posted to the list), which have been enlightening, and the posted comments
countering my arguments. I would be happy to take this topic offline rather
than continuing with the list. Again, I am always learning and no expert,
hopefully someone will perform a more comprehensive analysis on this
subject. It would be interesting to get feedback from the original poster
now?

I apologize to the people who were upset by my posts; please don't take it
personally. Let me also say that we are all lucky to be learning in the
days of Perl.

Advise!]

I am a very new beginner and perl is my first programming language which I
learnt as a hobby. I started on perl because many people says that perl is
easier to learn than other languages such as c or c++.

In deciding which languages to choose, of which what I actually wanted, was
to learn a language that would allow me to do things I wanted to do, and
because I do not know which language to choose at that time, I therefore
landed myself in perl.

I've to thank you John for your comparison comments bt perl and c, c++ for
it allows me to see a better picture.

However, I'm not too sure if opinions marked as off-topics are allowed in
this emailing group.

Thanks.
