Hi!

Many of us can't deal with the changes that happen in the past decade, either because we are old or because we are perfectionist, or both. I used to be one of those people, but i have grown up.

Grown up or grown tired?

A little of both, i guess.

When i was younger, i was one of those energetic people that tried to enforce THE LAW on the internet. Nowadays, i'm ok with just getting my message across most of the time.

But i'm not old!!! I still can remember where i put my teeth. Most of the time, anyway. I think.... Where are they?

;-)

In my opinion, people who bash other people for not writing Emails according to some outdated rules should be kicked in the seating module.

Only after the people that can't spend a few minutes folowing the rules and thus making their posts easier to read and respond to.

As i said, SOME of the rules are still valid. But i guess somethink like making your posts readable and understandable isn't a rule per se. It's more like common sense.

What i meant was more the outdated rules that where invented because of technical limitations (like the 4-line rule for signatures that was invented because of the very limited storage space and bandwidth at the time). Sorry, should have been clearer on the subject.

It may be impossible to prevent the addition of a company signature, but it's not impossible to remove the old signatures and other cruft.

In that, i fully agree.

But, we have to remember. These are beginners. While they may have used web forums for discussions for years, a number of them join a mailing for the first time when they come here.

While i'm with you in that we should point out their errors, in my opinion learning to post here in the correct format and style is a process that has to be taken step-by-step. And just with everything in live, people are bound to make mistakes. You got to learn to walk before you can run.

They'll get caught in their first Perl flamewar soon enough. Nothing beats a discussion of "solution X is better than Y", especially if both sides have valid points. But let them integrate first, guide them - not bash them.
