I wouldn't recommend it to someone who is new to programming (in fact,
_Programming Perl_ probably isn't the appropriate book to a new
programmer). For an experienced programmer, reading at least the overview
and gory details section of The Camel book is a good start to immerse
yourself in the language for a weekend. After that, perhaps the Ram book
(Cookbook) is a good book to have on hand -- not for reading but
definitely for reference.
