It depends on the book and the person.
I learn best by pouring the docs into my head about a dozen times, then
using them as references to explain why the test code I'm trying isn't
working. =o)

But once you've got a good understanding of the basics, I'd heartily
recommend digesting the panther book cover-to-cover. I learned more
about objects reading that than I had previously realized there was to
learn.
