could this be related to $ua->proxy ? (as i said, this is not my server... i don't know if i'm supposed to use a proxy or not... and i don't know what to set proxy to...)

useragent/headers/cookies or something (a sort of anti bot/spider
tactic) and are giving you a 500 error.
Can you show us your code?
Are you able to grap any other URL ok (i.e. is your code working fine?)
