Greetings; Clive, you must be new to all this! I haven't seen a flame on this list since I started reading it, and that has been a few months.
The reference to perldoc is not the same as "RTFM". Perldoc is a part of the perl package. The perldoc files are well written and generally have some code fragments that show you how to use the feature. Type perldoc perldoc (no, I didn't stutter!) on the command line, or in a DOS window, and all will be revealed! :-) Also, you can check out about.com for tutorials, examples, and online classes. When it comes to perl you need lots of resources. And experiment, experiment, experiment! Good Luck!
