If your reason for doing the split is not processing time, then I would
suggest you use a single top-level file to include your per-year files and
avoid the explicit "closing" of each year; Beancount can do this for you at
reporting time. Some people on this list split their files; I've coded this
up but I've never used it myself (other than unit tests). Note that all the
options and plugins must appear in the top-level file.
