Announcements:
Craig:
His son got married yesterday at a mansion in Beverly Hills.
Lisa:
Westercon 77 (2025) will be in conjunction with BayCon.
She’ll also be at this year’s BayCon, because the Utah WesterCon is not in
budget.
Dave:
Cargo Cult will net be at this BayCon due to an administrative error.
Reviews
Rick:
Rebel Moon: The Scargiver (part 2) Not innovative and surprising and
unpredictable. Full of mostly visual excitement, there are people in it that
speak lines. Predictable. Enjoyed it, but wouldn’t recommend paying for it.
Yochanan liked it a little more than Rick. Acting was competent. At least
matinee.
HBO brought back House of the Dragon (GoT prequel). A lot of angst and murder
and intrigue. GRRM back to form. S2 better than S1. Things are already going
from bad to worse. Quite good stuff.
Yochanan: Season one was good, with Matt Smith.
Patty:
Percy Jackson The Olympians (season 1) D+. Liked it. Close to the books.
Actors were good. Season 2 in the works.
Yochanan: Thought they did a marvelous job. Really good (as opposed to the
films).
Craig: Dislikes the category of Young Adult, because it’s harder to find SF
books…
JohnO: Heinlin quote. YA is like regular fiction. Write the best story you can,
with a teen protagonist, then remove all the profanity and sex.
Yochanan:
Sweet Tooth (S3) Netflix. Now concluded. Wonderful series. Based on a graphic
novel. Characters are hybrids (human/animal). Really beautifully done. Highly
recommend.
Wonder (2017). Julia Roberts & Owen Wilson with son with facial deformity.
Based on a novel with a novel approach, and the film tries to adopt the style.
Well done, loved it a lot. On Netflix. Highly reccommend.
JohnO
The Legend of Ruby Sunday (DW, pt1 of 2) Many old friends come back, and old
foe. Story, acting, FX, callbacks all top. Find the BTS on YouTube. (lots of
positive follow-ons, dancing around spoilers).
Rick: Hopes RTD sticks the landing on part 2 (but doesn’t have a great history)
May not have the rewatchability.
DaveC:
Hundreds of Beavers. About a brave young man who starts an apple-jack business,
then realizes it snows, and becomes a trapper. Limited release. Go see if it
shows in your area.
Rumor of the Week:
Due to Rick’s technology he may be inundated with friends.
There was an auction
