John O announced that 'The Wandering Earth 2' may be in general release soon [see below] REVIEWS: Gerry reviewed a concert, 'Violins of Hope', held at the Bankhead Theater in Livermore February 5,6,7 - was a lot of wonderful music; highly recommended. She mentioned that there is also an exhibit with violins, as well Rick reviewed HBO's adaptation of 'The Last of Us' as an excellent post-apocalyptic zombie series & he recommends it highly. Yochanan followed, saying he loves this series & finds it amazing, also recommending it. Duncan opined that the adaptation of game to TV series has been reasonably well done, but thinks that the fungal zombie transformation method is abusing the concept of cordyceps John O reviewed 'Avatar 2, the Way of Water', as they really enjoyed it and it FLOWS WELL [emphasis mine]. The visuals are incredibly beautiful & he highly recommends it. The movie is 3h 12m long & had 15 minutes of previews & John O also reviewed 'Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman's Butler', as there are 3 seasons out on HBO Max & there is supposed to be a 4th season, later in 2023. It's a gritty, alternate-world concept that starts out in post-war England & they have really been enjoying it Yochanan reviewed a Netflix show, 'The Call', as a thriller that involves time travel & has an Asian setting. He is enjoying it & recommends it. Yochanan also reviewed 'Wandering Earth 2' - that is playing at the Eastridge AMC. It's a sci fi film about trying to move the Earth away from an expanding Sun, with a second plot about opposition to this move from those who favor uploading consciousness [...to a storage medium that can then vaporize?]. The movie is almost 3 hours long & he really loved it & found it to be amazing. The main audio in "Wandering Earth 2" is in Mandarin (but there are subtitles); https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wandering_Earth_2 So Yochanan hunted down 'Wandering Earth 1' & found it on Netflix. He reviewed it as a big, fun, kind of cheesy, exciting film but thought the 2 movies aren't really related to each other. He thinks #1 was good, but that #2 is amazing! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wandering_Earth Gerry asked about the time scale of the movie & was told that this is happening about 300 years in the future Chris reviewed 'Termination Shock' by Neal Stephenson as having a very interesting premise with just an 'okay' ending, but was mostly a fabulous near-future book about the effects of climate-change; check = https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Termination_Shock_(novel) we adjourned at 8:55pm and the rumor of the week was = 'Curses, USAF shot down BASFA's trial balloon!' -- ******************* She/whispered/'Oh/my/goodness/what/are/all/these/squirrels/doing/here?' melc...@gmail.com *******************
