Dear BASFA gang. Well, I was impressed that gallifrey was as much as a BASFA event in exile as a Dr Who convention, and thanks as always for your kind hospitality, generosity and seriously the best party of the weekend. You are all superb, and I am grateful for the welcome and help, both on a personal level and also with London in 2014.
Last year many of you helped myself Helen Montgomery, Spike and Chris Garcia, to make the SF outreach all it was. It was very succesful, and we gave away nearly 6,000 books. Helen Montgomery who was on the committee of Reno Worldcon, felt it had a genuine beneficial effect on people attending the worldcon. This year, we intend to promote Worldcons and local cons at C2E2, Chicagos Pop Culture event. http://www.c2e2.com/ Its occuring at McCormick Place from the 13th to 15th of April. We will again be giving out thousands of books, our aim is to amass some 6,000+ to give away. As you can imagine, we are more secure in the knowledge of what we want to do, and have already booked the $1800 booth. We were hoping you may consider doing an internal Book Drive. We have found that moving books can be very cheap (via USPS Media Mail - we shipped a lot of books from Chicago area book drives to San Francisco last year, and it was very inexpensive), and yet they are a vital commodity to us, so this help would be really very tangible. We would of course foot the bill for this postage, but when we work out we get 70 paperbacks for $20, its cheap. I hope that you may consider this, please.
