As requested last week, here's a second reminder that we're going to be
discussing the top part (mostly the written-fiction categories) of the Hugo
Awards Ballot tonight.

Cheryl sent me a list of her recommendations as well, which I've not yet
integrated into the spreadsheets, so there's apt to be multiple sheets of paper
floating around that I'll have to merge when we're done.

My revised plan is to take the results from tonight (and the past three nights)
and bring them all back next Monday for people to have a final opportunity to
add their endorsements, then post it sometime that week. That should still give
you a few weeks to fill in your nominating ballot.

Subject: [Basfa] Hugo Homework

Remember that we still have one more week of Hugo Award Discussion Nights
coming up next Monday after the main meeting. Next week we'll go through the
"top third" of the ballot, that being Best Related Book, Best Short Story, Best
Novellette, Best Novella, and Best Novel.

I'll have all of the sheets for all of the categories. I encourage everyone to
add their names to the endorsements of works you like. You can also add other
proposals to any of the categories, because I'm not going to post the results
until we've done all of the categories.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Why do I ask for people's names on the sign-up list?

When we publish the results on the Hugo_Recommend LiveJournal community, only
those works with at least one name by them will go on the list, and we'll
include the initials of everyone who endorsed a work. That's to show how much
support the work has from our club members. If you can't stand up for your
recommended work, don't recommend it.

2. Do I have to be a Worldcon member to make recommendations?

No. This isn't the Hugo Award Ballot itself. This is the members of BASFA
making recommendations of works they'd like to see nominated for a Hugo Award.

3. Are there limits to how many recommendations I can make?

No. You can make as many or as few recommendations as you like. You can even
recommend more than five works in a category, although of course if you're a
Worldcon member eligible to nominate, you'll have to narrow that down to five
choices before you fill out your ballot.

4. Do I have to come to BASFA to make recommendations?

No. If you can't come to the meeting, e-mail me directly with your
recommendations and I'll add them to the list. (Don't send it to the BASFA
list! Edit your addressees if you reply to this message and send it only to me.)

If you have any other questions about the process, contact me.

Thanks,

Kevin
