On that topic: I know that garage https://garagehq.deuxfleurs.fr/ has been tested with bacula for usage in a large, demanding environment and, while not chose for the final design, didn't leave a bad impression.
Some features that were lacking were about distributed and erasure coded backend storage, replication and perhaps immutability / object lock. I assume that, for a single NAS box target, they will not be show stoppers.
The need for sufficient local storage for the largest backup job you want to handle with copy/migration jobs may be a problem; direct object storage with Bacula can relax that to some extent, but you may have to throttle backups.
Anyway -- at this point it's probably more about collecting and comparing options without going into all the details .-)
