first of all, your posting is somewhat hard to read with all the
interspersed HTML entities. I will therefore exceptionally not
answer in line. Perhaps you could avoid that in the future.

If I haven't overlooked anything, all the failures do indeed
concern the changer, not the drives, and all the changer commands
reported failure. I would therefore suspect a systematic error.

Have you verified the changer configuration? IIRC the IBM 3573-TL
had such configuration options as "sequential mode" which would
substantially change the behaviour of the changer.

Have you tried changing tapes via the web interface? Does that
work correctly? Do the status pages of the web interface report
any problems?

Also, you write that the library has been tested successfully
with mtx/mt. Was it connected to the same system then? Do you
have access to the test results to check whether the same
commands which are failing for you now have been performed
successfully during those tests?
